When it comes to making over your bedroom, there are a lot of things to consider. Are you going just to change the colour scheme, or do you want to change the bed as well? Perhaps you need some extra storage space, so you need to look at built-in wardrobes. Here are some of the best ways you can update your bedroom depending on how far you want to go.
A lick of paint.
Never underestimate the power of colour. Perhaps you want to do a feature wall with a striking wallpaper or a bold colour. Well, the bedroom is the ideal place to do this. It can add personality to your room and give it a more modern feel. You could also paint all the walls for a more dramatic change. Play around with colours or consider mapping out which way your room faces and working with colours to enhance it.
Freshen up the furniture.
If your bedside tables or dressing table need freshening up, then consider restoring them first. You can buy some great paint for furniture in a range of different colours, so you don’t need to splash out on new items if you don’t want to. However, if you really do want new furniture, shop around. There are some great deals such as multibuy offers for bedrooms. You can often get a discount if you buy two or more from the same range.
Time for bed.
If your bed has seen better days, then it could be a chance to replace it. There are so many different options for beds now from wooden frames to leather sleigh beds. It all depends on the size of your room and your budget. You can get beds with storage built under them, as well as some that incorporate a television at the bottom. Perfect for smaller bedrooms where space is at a premium.
Update your mattress.
We all know you should be changing your mattress every eight years. If you can’t remember how long it has been, then chances are it probably needs replacing. If you aren’t sure what type to go for, then look at this guide to tempur mattresses. There are so many different mattress varieties that you should spend time finding the most comfortable one for a good night’s sleep.
Smarten up your storage.
If you’re finding it difficult to find room for everything in your bedroom, then consider your storage. There are many companies who offer built-in wardrobe and storage solutions, meaning all of your clothes and clutter can be hidden away. You could put them along one wall, or have storage built above the bed. That way, you’ll never be short of cupboard space again. What a great excuse to buy more clothes.
Add an en-suite.
Queuing for one bathroom in a morning can be a nightmare, but it doesn’t need to be. If you have enough space, then why not add an en-suite to your room? It could be a small shower room or a larger luxury bathroom. Either way, it means you have access to your own shower every day.
Fabulous flooring.
Maybe your bedroom carpet has seen better days. Makeup and coffee stains can really take their toll on a carpet, so think of putting in some new flooring. It could be a stylish new hardwood floor or even a newer carpet. If you accessorise it with a statement rug, you’ll add a touch of class to the room.
Accessorises.
When it comes to a quick and easy way to update your bedroom, accessories are the best thing to change. You can change the duvet cover and curtains to make a statement. You could buy some new ornaments and candle holders to decorate the bedside tables. Another great way to update the room is buying some artwork or a large mirror. There are so many ways that you can change the look of the room without spending a fortune.
Light it up.
Lighting is so important in a bedroom. It can make the room a lot more relaxing and aid a restful night’s sleep. You don’t want bedside lamps to be too bright, so consider buying a traditional lamp that uses a low-watt bulb. Multi-light fittings and metallic lights can add a bit too much glare and stark light into a bedroom. Ceiling lights can make a big impact in the room, so consider what look you’re going for in the room and reflect that. Looking to go darker and dramatic? Choose a chandelier. Want a more modern feel? Look at getting a chrome light fitting.
Add some seating.
If you room is big enough, you could add some seating to your bedroom. Whether this is a chair or a chaise longue, it can provide somewhere to retreat to when you want some quiet time. It also looks stylish as well and means you don’t ever really need to leave your room if you don’t want to.
Upcycle.
Trying to update your room on a budget can be tricky, but there are ways to avoid spending too much. Look at using items you already have, such as rugs or tablecloths. These can be turned into decorative wall hangings or even used for throws on the bed. It’s perfect for a casual yet stylish bedroom.
Wow with your windows.
When it comes to a statement window, a bedroom can be a great place to start. You could look at some stained glass panels which add a vintage feel, or maybe just adding a blind if you don’t want to spend too much. With the right colour and style, a blind can add a whole new dimension to the room, as well as help keeps light out in the evening.
Just have fun.
Your bedroom is the only room that is truly just for you, so have a good time making it as personal as you like. Experiment with colour and design, and enjoy the results!
